Volunteering brokerage
We can help your organisation to recruit volunteers by promoting your volunteer opportunities to people who live, work or study in Tower Hamlets. If potential volunteers express an interest in your vacancies, we will refer them to you. Many volunteers come to us every week, others are referred to us. According to their interests and skills we signpost your opportunity to them and encourage them to apply. Please note that we don’t screen or interview prospective volunteers – this is up to you – but we can advise you on safer recruitment procedures.

Volunteering marketing
We do this by showing potential volunteers your vacancies when they attend appointments with our advisors, by advertising volunteering roles online on our website, via social media, by promoting volunteering at events and festivals and by raising the profile of local volunteering in a variety of media.
 
Developing good practice
We produce a number of best practice resources and publications, including fact sheets, e-bulletins, training bulletins and research reports. We run monthly training workshops for workers who manage volunteers.
 
Developing volunteering opportunities
If you are new to working with volunteers, or are reviewing your volunteering programme, you may like to book some support time with an advisor. We offer member groups capacity building support to develop their policies, procedures and opportunities for volunteers. Policy response and campaigning
One of our roles as a Volunteer Centre is to respond to policies affecting volunteering, and to campaign for a volunteer-friendly climate in the borough. An example of this is the development of a local Volunteering Compact. We also conduct research into volunteering that informs local decision-making.
 
Strategic development of volunteering
We encourage volunteer involving organisations to voice their concerns and to participate in local and national consultations via regular networking and consultation events.
