Khaled's story

Khaled smilingAbout Khaled.
I live in Tower Hamlets and just completed a BA (Hons) degree in Education Studies.

Why did you decide to volunteer?
I decided to volunteer during the start of my third year of University. As a student entering my final year I felt it was important for me to gain some work experience before graduating. The volunteering role which I did through Volunteer Centre Tower Hamlets also complemented the degree I was doing.

Who do you help through volunteering?
Volunteering gives you an opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives in your community. The volunteering role allowed me to work with local families in my area to improve children's literacy.

How has volunteering helped you?
Volunteering has taught me a variety of new skills. At the same time I was able to further improve on the skills which I already had. Volunteering has made me a confident person. I also believe it has greatly improved my employment prospect.

What would you say to potential volunteers?
Volunteering is a fantastic way to boost up your CV and try out a career which you may want to get into. Volunteering is also fun and it is a great way to meet different people and make friends.
