Volunteer Centre Tower Hamlets (VCTH) helps volunteer involving organisations (VIOs) based in Tower Hamlets recruit, manage and retain volunteers.
Promoting your volunteer opportunities
We can advertise your volunteer opportunities on our website, via our database of people interested in volunteering, and through our Facebook page.

We also offer a confidential appointment service to anyone living, working or studying in Tower Hamlets. We work with volunteers and tell them more about your volunteering opportunities.

Training for Volunteer Managers
We provide low-cost training held locally at our office in E1 (Commercial St). All our training is half-day (3 hours), very practical and interactive, and receives high ratings from participants. Details of upcoming courses can be found on our Training for Volunteer Managers page.
We create and circulate a monthly e-bulletin with information about training, funding, policy changes and events concerning the volunteering sector in Tower Hamlets. Past editions can be found on our Resources page.
Best practice online resources
We produce detailed factsheets on a range of aspects of working with volunteers, such as criminal record checks, volunteer expenses and rewards and tips on retaining volunteers. Visit our Resources page.
Networking events for VIOs
We organise quarterly Peer Learning events, where you can meet other Volunteer Managers and share experience on particular volunteer management issues. Details of upcoming sessions can be found on our Training for Volunteer Managers page.
1-1 Best practice advice
If your organisation has an office or base in Tower Hamlets, we can also provide you with free* consultancy advice over the phone, face-to-face or by email on any aspect of recruiting and managing volunteers. You can access up to 28 hours of support, comprising of a mix of training and 1-1 advice to suit your needs. This could include (but is not limited to) the following areas:
• reviewing or developing any policies or documents e.g. your Volunteer Policy, Volunteer Handbook, Staff Handbook on managing volunteers, Volunteer Strategy, Safeguarding Policy etc.
• support you with writing funding applications for volunteering projects
• ensuring that you are legally compliant
• help with improving your assessment/interview process, involving service users as volunteers, managing risks related to volunteers, improving retention of volunteers, criminal record checking etc.
• provide sample policies and templates e.g. volunteer code of conduct, application form, risk assessment etc.

Campaigning on volunteering issues
We coordinate campaigns at local level on behalf of Volunteer Involving Organisations on issues affecting volunteering and volunteers. Recent campaigns include Keep Volunteering Voluntary and we are currently supporting a campaign to get greater clarity from the Home Office on how the visa that someone has affects their ability to volunteer.

We have a lovely meeting/training room available for hire at affordable rates, which can comfortably accommodate up to 12 people. Hire our meeting room.
