Volunteer, reflect, grow: Tools to Inspire and Sustain Volunteering

FREE** Peer Learning Workshop. Volunteer, Reflect, Grow: Tools to Inspire and Sustain Volunteering

Thursday 11 December 2025, 10.30am - 12.30pm, on Zoom

Would you like to improve how you support, motivate, and retain volunteers? Join us for an engaging and practical workshop introducing Volunteer, Reflect, Grow: Tools to Inspire and Sustain Volunteering — a new research-informed resource designed to strengthen reflective practice in volunteer management.

Why It Matters

Volunteers are at the heart of community action and delivering vital services — but recruiting and supporting them well takes reflection, creativity, and time. This workshop offers practical tools and shared learning to make that possible.

What to Expect

The workshop will be led by Dr. Susannah Pickering-Saqqa, Senior Lecturer at the University of East London. You will:

  • Discover the evidence and thinking behind the Volunteer, Reflect, Grow resource — developed in collaboration with small charities in East London.
  • Explore simple, adaptable models of reflective practice to strengthen volunteer support and sustainability.
  • Practice using selected activities from the cards in small groups and reflect on how they can be used in your own organisation.
  • Connect with other local Volunteer Managers to share experiences, challenges, and ideas for embedding reflection into everyday volunteering practice.

Who Should Attend

Volunteer Managers, Coordinators, or anyone responsible for supporting and developing volunteers in charities or community organisations. Priority will be given to voluntary sector organisations with a base/office in Tower Hamlets, or that have services aimed at Tower Hamlets residents. Book your place.

Managing Volunteers - Resources

VCTH produces factsheets on managing, recruiting and retaining volunteers so you're always up-to-date with best practice in volunteer management. We also cover topical issues. For instance, we have factsheets on safeguarding during the pandemic or on which roles require a DBS check. Access our factsheets on managing volunteers.
