FREE** Peer Learning session: The London Vision for Volunteering

Wednesday 11 June 2025, 10.30am - 12.30pm, on Zoom

Is recruiting and retaining volunteers an issue for your organisation?
National, regional and local research, as well as an abundance of anecdotal evidence, shows that rates of formal volunteering are on the decline across London and the UK, compared to before the pandemic.

The London Vision for Volunteering aims to provide a blueprint for developing volunteering in London, bringing together learning from individuals, organisations and businesses from every London borough. The report contains 36 practical recommendations, which aim to create meaningful change, while also understanding that more work and time will be needed in some areas.

In this practical Peer Learning session, we will hear from Dominic Pinkney, London Vision for Volunteering programme lead and CEO of Works4U. Dominic will highlight key recommendations from the Vision, relevant to Volunteer Managers.

We will then break out into small groups, where you will discuss the recommendations with other local Volunteer Managers, identifying practical actions that your organisation could take, what the challenges might be, and what support you might need.

This session is suitable for both experienced Volunteer Managers as well as those who are relatively new to managing volunteers.

Venue: Zoom
Priority will be given to voluntary sector organisations with a base/office in Tower Hamlets, or that have services aimed at Tower Hamlets residents

FREE** Peer Learning Session: Addressing barriers to volunteering for people with lived experience of mental health issues

Wednesday 2 July at 10.30-12.30, on Zoom

Would you like to make your volunteer roles more accessible to people with mental health issues and support them to volunteer successfully? Research shows that 68% of Londoners have experienced symptoms of poor mental health within the last six months and Tower Hamlets has some of the highest levels of reported mental health illness in London, increased by the COVID-19 pandemic and cost of living crisis. Involving this group will benefit your organisation, all your volunteers and the local community.

In this practical Peer Learning session, we will hear from Jess Young from Volunteer Centre Greenwich, who will speak about their user-centred research on barriers to volunteering for people with lived experience of mental ill health. Jess will present clear evidence of why change is needed and share practical tips on how to make it happen, as told by people with lived experience.

This session is suitable for experienced Volunteer Managers as well as those who are new to managing volunteers.

Cost: our training programme is funded by the City Bridge Foundation. The session is FREE to voluntary sector and public sector organisations with a base/office in Tower Hamlets, or that have services specifically aimed at Tower Hamlets residents. Book your place.
